    Hop onto any of the ferries departing from the Malta mainland to see a little piece of Mediterranean paradise in the tiny island of Gozo. Admittedly, it can get a little packed, with hordes of tourists disturbing the peace in high summer, but try reserving a room here and experience the tranquillity at night. Best of all, it’s a wonder to explore and really is a throwback to a different era. What’s more, the water around here is crystal blue and is popular with scuba divers and snorkellers�

  • Malta, an island for Gladiators.

    Few people know that much of the 1999 Gladiator movie was filmed in Malta. The island boasts the barren sultry landscape making it remarkably similar to ancient Rome (without the lions). The movie left its mark on the Maltese landscape in more ways than one. Actor Oliver Reed, famous for his heavy drinking sessions sank his last drink at The Pub (at 136 Triq l-Arcisqof) . If you visit today, you’ll see all sorts of movie memorabilia on the walls. The thought he'd popped his clogs here, is enough to turn you tea-total�
